"It's better for me to be single because I can explore my options."
The pressure to couple up is everywhere, and sometimes it's easy to feel bad if you're not in a relationship. But before you get down on yourself for your single status, check out all the great things about being single that Teen Advisory Group members Joshua and Olga collected for your benefit!

1. Freedom to do whatever your heart desires. When you're single, you can hang out with your friends, go to parties, or just stay home alone without worrying about what your girlfriend or boyfriend wants to do. You can go on vacation and make decisions about your life (like going away to college) without obsessing about what your gal or guy is doing back home.

2. More time for things you love. Whether it's basketball practice after school or dance lessons every other night, being single gives you more time for things you enjoy. When you're single, you don't have to worry about squeezing in a few minutes with your honey along with everything else you have going on.

3. Less stress. There are enough stresses in high school without adding relationship stresses. As 17-year-old Anna says, "I feel relaxed because I'm not obligated to anyone but myself."

4. Focusing on school. It might sound boring, but staying focused on school can be a lot easier if you are single, and how you do in high school can definitely affect your future. Being single lets you dedicate yourself to homework, clubs, and sports teams, while still leaving some time for yourself.

5. Flirting. If you're single you can flirt with anyone you like and not worry about hurting someone else's feelings. And let's be honest, flirting can be really fun! Sasha, 17, says, "It's better for me to be single because I can explore my options." Not so easy when your sweetie is glued to your side.

Finally, being single helps you learn how to be independent. When you don't have someone else to rely on for every little thing, you can learn how to do more things for yourself. And being independent is a very important skill, whether you're super and single, or one half of a happy couple!
