Your Question:

Dear Experts,

My friend says that it burns when he pees. Could he have something?

Sk8r4life16

The Answer:

Dear Sk8r4life16,

Yes, he could. The only way to know for sure why pain is occurring during urination is to go to a clinician to have a physical exam. Your friend can call 1-800-230-PLAN to make an appointment with the nearest Planned Parenthood health center.

Although we cannot make a diagnosis online, you may want to know that a common symptom of urinary tract infections is burning pain during urination. These infections can be caused by bacteria that have spread from the rectum to the vagina or penis and then to the urethra and bladder. Urinary tract infections can be spread by any kind of sex play that brings fecal material into contact with the vagina and urethra.

Burning pain during urination may also be a symptom of other infections — chlamydia and gonorrhea — that are sexually transmitted.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
