Your Question:
Dear Experts,
what is douching and how and why do you do it?
marauders321, 05.21.07
The Answer:
Dear marauders321,
Douching is spraying a special solution (usually a water/vinegar mixture) into the vagina. Some women douche to clean the vagina, but it isn't necessary, and it can even be harmful. Douching can upset the natural balance of vaginal bacteria, which can cause vaginitis, an inflammation of the vagina.
Douching isn't necessary because the vagina cleans itself it gets rid of mucus, semen, menstrual fluid, and old cells that are no longer needed. Besides having menstrual periods, women may have other vaginal discharges whitish-yellow secretions that are normal and healthy. It's also normal to have a natural genital odor.
Hope this information helps!
Take care,
