Your Question:
Dear Experts,
i was just curious about this topic because a lot of people have been telling me that having a urinary tract infection will affect the result of a pregnancy. true or false?

The Answer:
Dear polskarican18,
True. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) often occur in pregnant women because the pressure of the fetus may prevent the bladder from emptying completely. This gives bacteria a chance to grow. It is also thought that increased levels of estrogen in the body during pregnancy help bacteria grow.
A pregnant woman with UTI symptoms should see her health care provider, because untreated UTIs may lead to premature labor. To make an appointment at a Planned Parenthood health center, call 1-800-230-PLAN.
Hope this information helps!
