Your Question:

Dear Experts,

i have a fair sized white lump on my outer labia. It looks like a cyst or a white head, and it isnt going away. there is only one, and there has only been one for a few weeks. is it possible that it it can be herpes? if not, are there any other possibilities?

waterfreak

The Answer:

Dear waterfreak,

We can't tell you over the Internet whether you have a sexually transmitted infection — diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections requires a physical examination and/or laboratory tests.

The lump could be a cyst, a skin tag — a growth from a cut or tear — a genital wart, or some other growth, such as molluscum contagiosum, which might appear in similar ways. But only a clinician can diagnose you and let you know for sure. To make an appointment with a clinician, call 1-800-230-PLAN to find a Planned Parenthood health center near you.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
