The Answer:

Dear xxxheart13xxx,

It is unlikely that your symptoms were associated with a miscarriage — early pregnancy loss. But it is not possible to be sure without additional information and an examination. But you may want to take a pregnancy test, even now, to make sure you are not pregnant. You can use a home test or your health care provider can provide a test and make a diagnosis. For the nearest Planned Parenthood health center, call 1-800-230-PLAN.

Early pregnancy loss is fairly common — it occurs in 15 percent to 20 percent of all pregnancies. Most early pregnancy losses happen during the first trimester (first 12 weeks) of pregnancy. Some typical symptoms of early pregnancy loss include slight vaginal bleeding or spotting, severe abdominal pain, and severe cramps. However, not all miscarriages are painful, and some women miscarry and mistake the miscarriage for a heavy period or are not aware of the miscarriage at all. Although many people think a simple blow to the stomach will cause miscarriage, it is unlikely.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
