The Answer:

Dear vball2007,

People should probably see counselors when they think they should. But what you're experiencing is pretty common. During puberty, your changing hormones can cause changes in your moods and emotions. You may cry for no reason, or feel happy one minute and sad the next.

One of the best ways to deal with these feelings is to talk about them. You may find that a parent or other trusted adult is able to offer you comfort and advice. Professional counseling can also be helpful for teens who are dealing with the changes that happen during adolescence.

If you need assistance finding a counselor, you can talk to your parents, your family doctor, or a counselor in your school. Planned Parenthood health centers can also provide referrals for counseling. To find a health center near you, call 1-800-230-PLAN.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
