Your Question:
Dear Experts,
I have been on the pill for the last 8 months. Am I protected from pregnancy on the first day I take the pill every month? or does it still take a few days even though I have been taking it for 8 months?
reff, 07.08.05
The Answer:
Dear reff,
Yes, you are protected on the first day and throughout your menstrual cycle for every month you continue taking the pill.
If a girl has been on the pill for more than one cycle, she's protected all month long. If a girl starts taking the pill for the first time within five days of starting her period, pill protection begins immediately. If she starts taking it for the first time at any other time during her menstrual cycle, pill protection begins one week later.
Used correctly, the pill is up to 99.7 percent effective during pregnancy. But remember, only latex and female condoms also reduce the risk of infection.
Hope this information helps!
Take care,
