Your Question:

Dear Experts,

how do you get rid of facial hair on your lip because its really embarrasing?

junebug_90

The Answer:

Dear junebug_90,

Many girls have hair on their faces — it's completely normal. If it bothers you, here are some options for removal:

  • Shaving. This is inexpensive, but it can cause ingrown hairs and itchiness as the hair grows back. It's important to be very careful if using a razor on delicate areas that can be cut easily.

  • Depilatory creams. These melt away hair so it washes off, and are also an inexpensive option. Depilatory creams can be irritating for people with sensitive skin. Make sure to choose a cream that is made to be used on the face.

  • Waxing. Hot or cold wax is spread over the area and quickly ripped off, removing the hair. It is quick and can last several weeks, but some people find it painful. Waxing can be done at home or in a salon.

  • Permanent removal. Electrolysis, a procedure where the hair root is shocked by an electric current, costs $50 to $125 per hour, and takes several hours. It can cause irritation and lead to scarring. Another option is laser hair removal, in which a beam of light passes through the skin to disable the hair follicle. It's much quicker, but costs about $200 per session for lip treatments, with three or four sessions being the norm.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
