Your Question:
Dear Experts,
Ive heard taht using condoms with Spermicide more than once a day is not good. But, what can happen if you do use them more than once a day?
xxTragedy, 11.18.04
The Answer:
Dear xxTragedy,
Some condoms are still coated with the spermicide nonoxynol-9 (N-9), which can help reduce the risk of pregnancy. However, N-9 may irritate the vagina, vulva, penis, or rectum. Studies show that using N-9 many times a day for anal intercourse, or by women at risk for HIV, may increase the risk of infection. Also, keep in mind that while spermicides may provide some protection against pregnancy, they do not reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections.
However, using a condom with N-9 is better than using no condom at all. The increased risk due to using a condom with a spermicide coating is not as significant as the risk of unintended pregnancy or sexually transmitted infection due to unprotected intercourse.
Hope this information helps!
