Your Question:
Dear Experts,
I recently called my local doctors office to make an appointment to get the Emergency Contraception Morning after pill. I thought would give my boyfriend and I peace of mind if we knew we had that incase something went wrong. But the doctors here don't feel "comfortable perscribing that medication." Is there any other way to get the pill? Please Help.

The Answer:
Dear in_love_18,
Planned Parenthood supports the right of all women to choose their methods of birth control including emergency contraception (EC). Most Planned Parenthood health centers and many other local providers, women's health clinics, and hospital emergency rooms also provide EC. It can be a good idea to get a prescription for EC and keep them on hand in case of unprotected sex or birth control failure.
Emergency contraception can reduce the risk of pregnancy if started within 120 hours of unprotected vaginal intercourse. The sooner it is taken, the better. If started within 72 hours of unprotected sex, it can reduce the risk of pregnancy by 75 to 89 percent.
To get EC, call 1-800-230-PLAN to find a clinic near you.
Hope this information helps!
