Your Question:
Dear Experts,
Are there any other reasons why someone would take birth control besides to prevent pregnacy? Or any other uses of birth control besides to prevent pregnancy?

The Answer:
Dear surfenbabe,
Yes. Some health care providers prescribe the birth control pill for women who have uncomfortable symptoms related to menstruation. Relief of menstrual discomfort is one of the many non-contraceptive benefits (those other than pregnancy prevention) that the pill offers. Many women who take the pill have more regular, lighter, and shorter periods. The pill offers some relief from acne, iron deficiency anemia, and excess body hair, as well as menstrual cramps and premenstrual symptoms. The pill also offers protection against certain cancers, ectopic pregnancy, and pelvic inflammatory disease.
Hope this information helps!
