Your Question:

Dear Experts,

Is masturbating by lying under running water potentially detrimental to your uterus/vagina? I heard it could cause long term damage...

smurunner

The Answer:

Dear smurunner,

No, this is completely safe. Holding the vulva and vagina under running water does not cause damage to a woman's sex organs. In fact, many women masturbate this way. Masturbating is one way to learn about what gives you sexual pleasure. Understanding what gives you sexual pleasure may make having sex with a partner easier and more rewarding later in life. Many women and men masturbate throughout their lives — whether or not they are in relationships.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
