Your Question:
Dear Experts,
Is it okay to wear a tampon to sleep in?
meluvspink, 04.16.04
The Answer:
Dear meluvspink,
Some health care providers recommend that women who use tampons wear pads at night instead. Even though it's very rare and there have been no reported cases for many years, women who use "high absorbency" tampons all day and night during their periods may be at risk of becoming ill. This can happen if bacteria in the vagina grow too much. This rare condition is called toxic shock syndrome (TSS). Stop using tampons if you vomit and have a high fever, diarrhea, and a sunburn-type rash while using one. Tell your parents immediately, and see a health care provider right away.
Hope this information helps!
