Your Question:

Dear Experts,

can certain types of soap irritate or burn your vagina?

guyproblem

The Answer:

Dear guyproblem,

Yes. Perfumes and fragrances can irritate the vulva and vagina, causing redness, irritation, and even vaginitis — an inflammation of the vagina that is caused by a change in the normal balance of vaginal bacteria. Watch out for soaps and lotions that contain dyes and perfumes, as well as deodorized tampons or pads, feminine sprays, douches, and colored or fragranced toilet paper and tissues.

It's important to remember that the vagina naturally cleanses itself. There is no need to douche or wash the vagina. Doing so may lead to irritation.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
