Your Question:

Dear Experts,

hi, i was wondering if a girls boobs get sore before shes going to start her period? is it one of the signs shes about to start?

lucy12345

The Answer:

Dear lucy12345,

Yes. Many women experience monthly swelling and tenderness in their breasts just before their period comes. The tissues of the breast tend to hold fluid before menstruation. The retention of fluid can make a woman's breasts feel swollen, tender, and heavier than usual. Some women get temporary relief from these symptoms by taking Ibuprofen (like Motrin, Advil, or Nuprin). Also, eating salt can cause tissues to retain water — so cutting down on salty foods may help.

However, if a woman feels pain in her breasts throughout the month, she should consult her health care provider. Call 1-800-230-PLAN to make an appointment at the Planned Parenthood nearest you.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
