Your Question:
Dear Experts,
I have a gynecologist exam coming up, and I realised that if I'm on schedule, I'll have my period that day. Should I postpone the exam?
Tina, 06.03.03
The Answer:
Dear Tina,
In order to ensure accurate test results and to prevent messiness a woman should make an appointment for a gynecological exam for a day when she won't have her period.
It is also recommended that a woman should not have vaginal intercourse or insert anything into her vagina for 24 to 48 hours before a gynecological visit. Also, it's important not to douche or use any other vaginal preparations for at least 24 hours before the appointment. Anything that is inserted into the vagina can mask vaginal conditions.
Hope this information helps!
