Your Question:

Dear Experts,

I heard that swallowing during oral sex can clear skin (acne and/or pimples)- is this true? what does ejaculate contain?

sophiel

The Answer:

Dear sophiel,

No, this is not true. Swallowing ejaculate (semen) during oral sex does not clear skin or get rid of acne.

Semen is the fluid containing sperm that is ejaculated during sexual excitement. It is composed of seminal fluid from the seminal vesicles, fluid from the prostate, and fluid from the Cowper's gland. Sperm move from the testicles to the seminal vesicles through tubes called the vas deferens. In the seminal vesicles, they mix with other fluids to form semen.

These fluids contain all kinds of chemicals and minerals, including calcium, chlorine, magnesium, nitrogen, vitamin B12, and zinc.

Although there is no chance for pregnancy to happen from oral sex, unprotected oral sex puts both partners at risk for a number of sexually transmitted infections. These risks are relatively lower than those of unprotected vaginal or anal sex. Using a condom for oral sex can further reduce the risks.

So what does cause acne? Puberty is a time when hormones stimulate change in all parts of the body. Both guys' and girls' sweat glands will produce greater amounts of sweat, and oil glands will produce greater amounts of oil. As a result, acne — pimples on the face and other parts of the body caused by bacteria and trapped oil — may appear.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
