Your Question:

Dear Experts,

I heard that its bad for you to sleep in a thong, is that true?

oopsie2680

The Answer:

Dear oopsie2680,

It depends on the thong! Sleeping in tight underwear or wearing underwear that doesn't have a cotton crotch can irritate the vulva. Although it may sound boring, wearing white, all-cotton underwear is healthiest for the vulva. Here are some other tips for keeping the vulva healthy:
  • Consider going without underwear when sleeping to give the vulva some breathing room.

  • Wash underwear in mild, unscented soap — detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners can cause irritation.

  • Wash the vulva with water and one's hand only — soaps can dry out or irritate the vulva, and a washcloth or loofah may be too harsh.

  • Avoiding using fragranced products (such as perfumed shower gels) on the vulva.

  • When possible, avoid wearing pantyhose, tight jeans, wet bathing suits, and tight-fitting Lycra or spandex workout clothes.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
