Condoms have expiration dates. If it is past the expiration date, the condom is no longer safe to use. Expired condoms tend to tear and rip more easily and frequently — therefore, they are not effective as a form of birth control or to reduce the risk of sexually transmitted infections.

Carrying condoms with you is a great idea. Remember, condoms need to be stored in a cool, dry place. If you've had the same condom in your purse for a while, it's a good idea to exchange it for a new one. Note to guys — the wallet in your pants is not the best place to keep a condom — it gets too warm.
