Your Question:
Dear Experts,
Is it okay to have anal sex or are there risks to it?
justice84, 09.09.02
The Answer:
Dear justice84,
Many people have anal sex and it is perfectly normal. However, like unprotected vaginal intercourse, unprotected anal intercourse is considered a high-risk activity. People who have unprotected anal intercourse are at high risk for many sexually transmitted infections, such as gonorrhea, HIV, chlamydia, syphilis, herpes, HPV, and hepatitis.
Correct and consistent condom use can reduce the risk of contracting dangerous sexually transmitted infections. And it is also important to use lots of water-based lubricant to avoid tears around the anus or in the rectum that could lead to infection.
Hope this information helps!
Take care,
