Your Question:
Dear Experts,
I just got diagnosed with vaginitis. What is this? Also, my doctor said that my boyfriend should get tested, but I don't get why? Don't you have to have a vagina to get vaginitis? Please help.

The Answer:
Dear shortie24, You're right it is not possible for your boyfriend to have vaginitis. But he may have a bacterial infection that can be passed to a sexual partner and cause vaginitis. Vaginitis is any irritation in the vagina, which often causes an abnormal discharge. Vaginitis is caused by - sexual activity
- infections
- lack of the hormone estrogen
- irritants
- allergies
If partners are worried that one or both of them may have an infection, they should either avoid having sex play until the infection is treated, or use a condom during sex to avoid spreading the infection back and forth, and seek treatment from a health care professional.
