Ask the Experts: I’m a 14-year-old female and I have no nipples.

Your Question:

Dear Experts,

I’m a 14-year-old female and I have no nipples. I have the area around them, but they aren’t there. I was wondering if this was bad or will cause problems.

The Answer:

Dear Dragon187,

Every woman has nipples. What you’re describing are “inverted nipples.” They point in rather than out. Every woman’s breasts and nipples are different. And usually each breast looks a little different even on the same body! Sometimes, as a woman’s breasts continue to grow, the nipples will be pushed outward.

Many women have inverted nipples. A woman can still enjoy sex and breastfeed her baby if one or both nipples are inverted. There are no health problems associated with having inverted nipples. However, an infection can occur if fluid or discharge from the breast gets caught in the folds around the inverted nipple. So, pay extra attention to keeping your nipples clean.

Hope this information helps!

Take care,
